Ponderosa Cabinet Company was started with a deep passion for woodworking and a legacy rooted in family, craftsmanship, and dedication.
Founder Joe Schroeder discovered his love for woodworking early in life, encouraged by his uncle and best friend, Jonah Slater—who, while not involved in woodworking himself, had a profound impact on Joe’s life. Just five years older than Joe, Jonah was the one who affectionately named the land Joe purchased in 1996 (which would later become the home of the company) “The Ponderosa,” a nod to the classic television show Bonanza. Although Jonah sadly passed away in 1998, his spirit lives on as a foundational part of the company and its name.
What started as a personal workshop—a 40' x 60' building built in 2002 for Joe’s woodworking hobby—soon became something much bigger. In June of 2006, Joe officially launched the business, with his very first job being a dresser and nightstands for his sister-in-law. In 2008, Joe's cousin, Austin Slater, joined him in the growing venture, adding his own craftsmanship and energy to the mix. Together, they've built more than just cabinets—they've built a legacy.
Thanks to years of dedication and a loyal customer base, the company has steadily grown. We doubled the size of our original building in 2012, and in 2017, we tripled the overall size again and added a showroom to better serve our clients.
Today, Ponderosa Cabinet Company remains a proud family business. Joe’s daughters, Jess and Sam, bring the next generation into the fold, working in the office and helping clients design beautiful, functional cabinetry tailored to their dreams. We specialize in custom wood cabinetry, handcrafted with passion, precision, and pride. Whether you're renovating a kitchen, building a new home, or simply dreaming up your ideal space, our team is here to bring your vision to life.
Welcome to Ponderosa. Let’s build something beautiful together.
